The Louvre if it's your first Paris visit and you book the 9am slot; the Musée d'Orsay if you value a manageable two-hour visit; the Musée de l'Orangerie if you want Monet's Water Lilies and out by lunch. Doing two museums in a weekend costs you a neighborhood — a bad trade.
Two Evenings, Two Moods
Book Friday or Saturday dinner in advance — this is not the city for walk-ins on weekends. One classic bistro in Saint-Germain, one livelier Marais or Canal Saint-Martin spot, and an after-dinner walk along the Seine, which at night is the best free attraction in Europe.

Day 2 · One Museum, Montmartre & Farewell
Museum at opening, a long bistro lunch (this is the meal the weekend was built around), then Montmartre late afternoon — Sacré-Cœur, the lanes, the view. Or invert it: Montmartre at opening, museum after lunch. Leave from Gare du Nord or Lyon with a paper bag of croissants.
