Seoul 5 Day Itinerary: The Deep Version

Five days is where Seoul trips get their second act. The first three follow our classic arc — palaces, youth districts, Gangnam and the river. Day four is the deep-dive fork (DMZ, Suwon's fortress, or deeper Seoul). Day five is the local version: markets, a ridge walk, and the bathhouse finish.
At roughly $100 a day, plan on $500 excluding flights — plus DMZ fees if that branch calls. The fifth day is also the cheapest: markets, mountains and jjimjilbangs cost almost nothing.

Royal Seoul (Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon, Ikseon-dong), the youth districts (Hongdae or Itaewon), and Gangnam with the Han River sunset — our 3-day guide's arc, unchanged.
Day 4: The Deep-Dive Fork
The DMZ with a licensed operator (book 1–2 weeks out, passport required), Suwon's Hwaseong Fortress walls an hour south, or the in-city deep version: the free National Museum, Mangwon Market, and Inwangsan's fortress-wall ridge at golden hour. All three are honest days; pick by temperament.
Day 5: The Local Sunday
Gwangjang's bindaetteok for lunch, Mangwon's market for snacks, Dongdaemun Design Plaza's spaceship for the photo, and a jjimjilbang finish that turns four days of walking into new legs. This is the day Seoulites actually live.
